About Us
Who we are
We are a year-round conservation corps made up of small teams working with trained leaders to complete important climate and conservation projects in Franklin and Grand Isle counties.
This innovative enterprise was developed by CCCUSA, a national nonprofit providing the road map, corps expertise, and startup funds. Franklin and Grand Isle will be the first in the nation and CCCUSA expects more than 3,000 communities to follow.
What we do
CCCNVT provides meaningful opportunities for all members of the community to be part of a climate solution and lend a hand to those in need.
Corps members can choose between two focus areas:
1. Climate
Small teams, working under trained leaders, will manage every aspect of the CCCNVT Thrift Store. The goal will be for every household in Franklin and Grand Isle to donate lightly used household and clothing goods — which otherwise might be thrown out — diverting a million pounds annually from the local waste stream.
Every item re-used represents a gallon or more of fuel saved, by not having a new item made and shipped from halfway around the world. This engages the entire community in a year-round climate initiative.
The store expects sales of $2 million annually. The profits will stay in Franklin and Grand Isle, funding the Conservation Crews.
2. Conservation
Small teams, working under trained leaders during the summer months, will complete high priority forestry, trail, wildlife, and watershed projects in Franklin and Grand Isle counties. Tree planting, check-dams, erosion control, and water quality are the types of work crews will focus on.
Senior Year of Service
Many seniors in high school are looking for something more as they have completed most of their required credits. Some may be looking for experiences which help them stand out for college applications, while others are very much working on what comes next.
Twenty-one, year-long, paid internships will be offered to students who will receive up to $28,000 for their participation in CCCNVT. Funds can be used to pay for everything from college tuition, apprenticeship tools, or a new pickup truck!
Students will work in small teams to manage the climate program and store, and then have the option to be part of the traditional summer conservation program.
A robust, comprehensive, and meaningful career development component will be part of each student’s experience.
Community Volunteers
Individuals, businesses, organizations, and school teams and organizations all have a crucial role. This includes donating lightly used household items, processing these items, and of course visiting and shopping at the store regularly!
